We’re excited to bring the Facing Project to Michigan State University and the Greater Lansing community!
About the Facing Project:
The Facing Project is a community storytelling project founded by J.R. Jamison and Kelsey Timmerman in Muncie, Indiana that connects people through stories to strengthen community. You can learn more about the nationwide project at www.facingproject.com.
About the Facing Project @ MSU:
Michigan State University is a broadly diverse institution deeply committed to its democratic mission as one of the nation’s first land-grant universities. Each year, MSU welcomes 7,000 undergraduates from as nearby as Lansing and as far away as Beijing—and each one of these students has a unique story of what led him or her to campus, as well as stories of what they hope to accomplish both as students and as graduates. Students taking a first year writing course at Michigan State University are hoping to capture the diversity of these very stories!
How this works:
Students taking a first year writing course in Spring 2017 are matched with fellow college students to capture their stories of “Facing College”. These stories can range from the challenging, joyful, and even joyful aspects of being at Michigan State University. The student writers will meet with the storyteller and then write a story as if they are them, writing in the first person. The stories will be compiled at featured at the First Year Writing Conference held in April 2017.
